A country bumpkin is not built for the city environment, and never will be. Solitude is needed to escape from the rat race and feel like the individual can pull through and feel like if no where else inside his mind is the place where he feels most comfortable.
"They won't notice the change, not the way it'll happen; by degrees, never giving them a chance to remember anything else. The past will feel like visiting an old neighborhood. To all intents it'll be the same place, only some things won't be there anymore."
I wanted to create a design using clean, simple, graphical vector shapes which felt contemporary and worked overall as an image to draw your interest in. Then when you looked closer you would discover more detail. It's a direct representation of how I like to spend my own spare time, with references to places, films, family and friends. Even though the poster is about me, my hope is that my design is open to interpretation and that the viewer can make their own story up. I just hope that people like it and think it's pretty enough to put on their wall.
I wanted to do an image which was based on my time spent in Japan. The Japanese text at the top of the poster reads: 'Spare Time in Shibuya'. Shibuya is a popular area in Tokyo where a lot of young people hang out in the streets and go shopping in hi-tec stores. Further out there is a shadier area which has many small bars, love hotels, head shops, and the famous nightclub 'Womb'. The characters' fasions in this picture are based on my memories of the people I saw in Shibuya between 2004 and 2006 and are meant to reflect some of the aspects of Shibuya's lively night life.
