Going back to collage

Spike OpenWe had a top time at the Spike Open weekend earlier in the year, where we set up a collage stand and invited anyone and everyone to make a poster.

With our usual strict book of rules and regulations we set off for the annual Spike Island open weekend, to invite members of the public both old and young to make a poster. We provided a table full of laser cut shapes - including some great designs from some of our artists Adrian Barclay and Carys Ink - plus a bunch of other random shapes, and asked people to make of it what they will. And make they did...

The children were chuffed to find something they could actually touch and get involved with, without precious artists looking over their shoulders... and the grown ups... well you could just see the inner child being released from within them. So many parents, settled their child off making their poster, only to realise this wasn't going to be a 2 minute stop. So after a thought, they decided to make one themselves... and they got well stuck in. We had many people stay for a long time making their posters.

And we ended up with a spectacular exhibition in the end of everyone's works. Thanks to everyone who took part - it was exhausting, but amazing. A true joy.

Thanks.
